🥗 Four Foods to Boost Longevity
The Japanese island of Okinawa is the home to the largest number of centenarians and they are known for their impressive longevity. Areas like this are referred to as Blue Zones, and there are several in the world which are studied to learn the secrets to longevity. The mindbodygreen podcast explains the Okinawan diet and what we can learn from their lifestyle habits. Four foods eaten by Okinawans that we can look to add to our diets are:
Green Tea - contains catechin EGCG which is 100x more potent in antioxidant power than Vitamin C
Shikuwasa - a small green fruit native to the region, contains nobiletin, which has anti-aging and anti-inflammatory benefits
Goya - is in the ground family shown to act similarly to insulin to balance blood sugar
Seaweed - rich in iodine, supports a healthy thyroid, and folate to promote production of healthy red blood cells
🧠 Removing Senescent Cells Improves the Brains of Female Mice
Nina’s Notes #5 explained the basics of Senescence. A recent study shows improved brain function in female mice by removing senescent cells from their brains. The study used a genetically engineered mouse called p16-InkAttac which makes senescent cells easy to destroy. Interestingly the results differed between male and female, and cognitive improvement was only seen in the female mice when senescent cells were removed. This is a promising study, but a long way off from being applicable to humans and even more research is needed to understand gender differences in aging.
🍄 Learn How to Micro-dose
Micro-dosing is the practice of ingesting sub-hallucinogenic amounts of psychedelics like psilocybin or LSD. In the upcoming microdosing masterclass on Nov 15, you can learn the history, science and best practices for safe and effective micro-dosing.
🇺🇸 Connecticut to provide MDMA therapy
Connecticut is slated to provide, state-supported MDMA and psilocybin therapy in 2023. The FDA’s expanded access program will allow approximately 100 veterans, retired first responders and frontline healthcare workers who have exhausted available treatment options for their depression or PTSD to utilize psychedelic therapy in a pilot study.
